Handira Care Guide

Is my Handira ethically made?

Your Handira is made in partnership with artisans living and working in Morocco. Our connection with these craftspeople has been established through the British Moroccan Society, a charity which helps foster commercial partnerships to promote development and cultural exchange between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

What is my Handira made from?

Your Handira is hand-woven by highly skilled artisans using predominantly cotton. Due to its celebratory origins, the Handira showcases highly decorative patterns which are often embellished with sequin accents.

Is my Handira eco-friendly?

Each Handira tells a part of the maker’s story and is designed to become part of your story; an heirloom piece that opposes the culture of throw-away consumerism.

How should I care for my Handira?

Whether using your Handira as a wall hanging, throw or bed covering we recommend that you regularly shake it outside to remove dust and hair from the material. You can freshen your Handira using a small misting of a mild, non-oily linen spray.

Can I clean my Handira?

It is best to avoid regular cleaning of your Handira due to the unstable dyes and sequin embellishments. If necessary the Handira may be sponge cleaned by hand using warm water and a mild, non-chemical hand washing soap.

How do I deter moths?

Moth breeding season in the UK is May - Oct so this is the time to be extra vigilant. Moths prefer dusty, food stained natural fibres and thrive in humid environments. Make sure you keep your home well ventilated to decrease humidity. Keep your Handira clean using the methods previously mentioned in the step above. You may want to lightly mist your Handira with a shop-bought moth deterrent or make your own using water and a few drops of lavender essential oil and spray very lightly.
